Help deliver “Beads at Home” to a child who cannot receive Beads of Courage at the hospital, either because their hospital does not offer the Beads of Courage Program or does not provide it for their medical condition. Your sponsorship becomes bead credit, allowing a child to choose and receive their own Beads of Courage, honoring every step of their journey.

"We have determined that you are Sidney." Those were the words my doctor told me, trying to cheer me up, with the only definitive knowledge he had; unable to adequately answer my questions while delivering the terrifying news of a rare degenerative brain disease with no cure or treatment.

Hi, my name is Sidney! I have been in and out of the hospital since I was a few days old. Daily, I struggle to manage over 30 diseases/medical conditions with 8 of those being Rare Diseases. I love to play sports, read, spend time with friends, theater, do crafts and make people smile. I have a special love of dogs and horses - two animals that helped me so much physically and mentally recover from full body paralysis and start walking again. Being chronically ill and having to spend hours every week(sometimes daily) in a ton of therapies, countless scans, blood draws, needles, tests, procedures, medications and appointments to stay healthy is a lot on top of school and spending time with family and friends. Knowing that one small mistake or missed medication could kill me, all while missing out on fun activities with friends, school and other social milestones takes a toll mentally. Medical trauma is hard to heal from when you are still "sick". Beads of Courage helps me heal from the trauma and having visual marker - the string of Beads, helps me process each medical event, hospitalization (I've had 8 at this point) and diagnosis. I can see what I have spent so much time on over the years instead of watching my friends go on with their life and wondering what I have done with mine. Being chronically ill is really lonely and hard to explain to someone who is healthy, that's where Beads of Courage helps, by creating a story that can safely be shared. The Beads take the hurt and trauma out of my mind and create something beautiful!

Please donate if you can. It would mean the world to me!❤️

P.S My profile picture is my favorite quote and seeing that has helped me through some really bad days. Maybe it will help you too! Don't give up!
